How to Use ToolMint: A Step-by-Step Guide to Every Free Tool

By the ToolMint team · October 2026 · 7 min read

ToolMint is a set of free tools that run entirely in your browser. There is nothing to install, no account is required, and your files are never uploaded to a server. This guide walks through each tool in plain steps, with a few tips that save time and avoid common mistakes.

Before you start

  • Use a recent browser. Current versions of Chrome, Edge, or Firefox work best on a laptop or desktop. Some features, like video recording, are less reliable on phones.
  • Your files stay on your device. Because everything is processed locally, large files depend on your computer's speed and memory, not on our servers.
  • An account is optional. You only need one if you want to save presets (such as visualizer styles) and reuse them on other devices.

1. Music Visualizer: turn a song into a video

  1. Open the Music Visualizer and click Choose track. MP3, WAV, and M4A files work.
  2. Pick an aspect ratio first: 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, or 1:1 for Instagram posts. Changing it later changes the layout.
  3. Choose a style (Bars, Waveform, Mirror, Blocks, Area, Dots, Pulse, Ring and more), then a colour and a position on the screen.
  4. Optionally add a background image and your logo. Use the visibility slider so the image doesn't fight with the visualizer.
  5. Press Play to preview. Adjust Visualizer size, Reactivity and Smoothing until it feels right for the track.
  6. Click Record video. Recording happens in real time, so a three-minute song takes three minutes. It stops by itself when the song ends, then use Download video.

Tips: keep the browser tab open while recording. For a see-through result, use Transparent mode and save a PNG frame, or choose Green screen and remove the green in your video editor.

2. PDF Toolkit: eight everyday jobs in one place

Open the PDF Toolkit and choose the job from the buttons at the top:

  • Merge PDFs: add several files, drag them into the order you want, and combine them into one.
  • Split / Extract: pull out specific pages or ranges into a new file.
  • Rotate / Delete: fix sideways pages or remove pages you don't need.
  • Text / Signature: type text onto a page or draw a signature and place it where you want.
  • Watermark: stamp text such as "Draft" or "Confidential" across pages.
  • Page Numbers: add numbering to a document that has none.
  • PDF → Image: turn each page into a picture.
  • Images → PDF: combine photos or scans into a single PDF.

Tip: the tools never change your original file. They create a new one for you to download, so you can always go back.

3. QR Code Generator

  1. Open the QR Code Generator and choose a type: Link, WiFi, Contact, WhatsApp, Email, SMS, or Event.
  2. Fill in the details. For WiFi, enter the network name, password and security type, and guests can join by scanning.
  3. Choose colours and dot style. Keep strong contrast between the code and its background, dark on light, or phones may struggle to scan it.
  4. Download as PNG for everyday use or SVG if it will be printed large.

Tip: always scan the code with your own phone before printing it on flyers or menus.

4. Caption & Subtitle Generator

Open the Caption & Subtitle Generator. There are two ways to work:

  • Manual: load your video, play it, press Mark start when someone begins speaking, type the line, then press Mark end. Repeat for each line. This is slower but gives you full control.
  • Auto-transcribe (beta): an AI model runs inside your browser and listens to the audio. First choose the language that is actually spoken in the video, or the result will be poor. The first run downloads the model, which can take a while, and results for less common languages may need cleaning up.

When you're done, export as .srt or .vtt and upload the file to YouTube, Facebook, or your video editor.

Tip: always read the auto-generated text once before publishing. Names, slang and mixed languages are where mistakes show up.

5. Background Remover

  1. Open the Background Remover and choose a photo.
  2. Click the remove button. The first time, the AI model has to download, so wait for the progress message.
  3. Check the result on the checkerboard preview, then download the transparent PNG.

Tip: photos with a clear subject and good lighting give the cleanest edges. Very busy backgrounds or hair against similar colours may need a second try with a different photo.

Troubleshooting common problems

  • Nothing happens after a click: refresh the page and try again. Look for a status message under the button, which usually explains what went wrong.
  • A download does not start: check that your browser isn't blocking downloads from the site.
  • The first run is slow: tools that use an AI model need to download it once. After that they start faster.
  • Large files feel slow: everything runs on your device, so closing other tabs and apps helps.
